Sources tell Deuxmoi that Tucker Pillsbury and Dakota Johnson split around the beginning of July, with news of the breakup becoming public this week after PEOPLE reported that the two had gone their separate ways.
Interestingly, on July 17, Deuxmoi received word that the two were still together. Sources now allege the relationship had become on-and-off toward the end, which could explain the conflicting information surrounding exactly when things officially ended.
According to sources, there wasn’t one major incident behind the breakup. Instead, the relationship allegedly came down to two fundamentally different people with very different priorities, values and approaches to life. Sources describe Tucker as particularly grounded and down-to-earth, alleging those differences became increasingly difficult to reconcile as the relationship went on.
Some of that disconnect may have stemmed from their very different upbringings. Johnson grew up in Hollywood as the daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, while Pillsbury, better known professionally as Role Model, grew up in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Sources suggest those contrasting backgrounds ultimately translated into very different lifestyles and perspectives.
The timing may have made an already complicated situation even more difficult to navigate. Pillsbury was preparing for the release of his third studio album, “Chuck Timely & The Hourglass,” which dropped August 7. With the relationship allegedly going back and forth toward the end, sources believe the timing and demands surrounding the album rollout may have further complicated the breakup and exactly when the relationship was considered officially over.
Ultimately, sources maintain there was no explosive incident or singular reason for the split. Rather, it appears to have been a relationship between two people whose differences became increasingly difficult to overcome.
