"OFF CAMPUS" MAY ALREADY BE SWITCHING UP THE BOOK ORDER FOR SEASON 2

There was a question from the BookTok girlies on last week's podcast episode of Deux/U regarding the Prime series "Off Campus" and we may have just unlocked some interesting intel before the series premieres.

A Deux/U listener asked whether the upcoming Prime adaptation plans to follow the original book order for future seasons or if the show might "pull a Bridgerton"-style switch and shuffle the order of the romances around.

And now, a couple of insiders are alleging that there may already be movement behind the scenes.

One source, who says they worked on part of the campaign for the series, claims the current plan is to jump ahead and make Dean and Allie’s relationship (which is book #3, "The Score", in the series) the focus of Season 2 instead of strictly following the original publishing order.

A second source, who has a well-placed source who worked on the Vancouver production, says the show is taking inspiration from the "Bridgerton" formula; meaning each season would center heavily around one couple while quietly setting up future romances in the background.

According to the tipster, Season 1 still focuses primarily on Garrett and Hannah (the first book in the series), while Season 2 is expected to lean heavily into Logan and Grace (book #2). However, viewers may already start seeing the groundwork laid for Dean and Allie much earlier than expected (our source notes you will see the set up for their relationship in the first season of the show).

The same source also alleges the adaptation expands several supporting characters beyond what readers saw in the books (particularly Josh) because certain actors remained involved in filming longer than their original storylines would suggest.

And because apparently the Vancouver YA adaptation scene is its own cinematic universe, the insider also shared one funny behind-the-scenes tidbit: cast members from another Prime adaptation, "Every Year After", were allegedly very aware that "Off Campus" was pulling stronger fan engagement online during filming.

Per the source, some cast members from the competing production were overheard discussing how to become more active on Instagram because “the Off Campus people were getting more attention.”

So…BookTok detectives, what are we thinking here? Strategic romance shuffle or total chaos incoming?
