JACK SCHLOSSBERG & RYAN MURPHY: KENNEDY HEIR QUESTIONS THE SHOWRUNNER ‘S MOTIVES

Jack Schlossberg makes no bones about it - he is unabashedly himself. So what happens when his aunt and uncle’s romance is being reimagined for television? He gets involved.

As Deuxmoi has been reporting since early July, more than one sreies are allegedly being developed surrounding John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s ill-fated love story. Discussed on Deux/U’s July 3rd and July 10th podcast episodes, at least two interpretations have been in the works: a development allegedly starring Theo James and also, TV showrunner Ryan Murphy’s retelling titiled "American Love Story". However, Deuxmoi’s sources reveal the former “prestige-level” creation was postponed due to James’ scheduling conflicts, prompting Murphy’s narrative to allegedly be “suddenly fast tracked into the open spot.” The latter production, “American Love Story,” has been panned across the board – from its on-screen wardrobe selections to Schlossberg’s ongoing criticisms.

When images were released of actress Sarah Pidgeon, playing Bessette-Kennedy, the internet went ballistic over her attire. A fashion icon in and of herself, Bessette-Kennedy’s costumes must be taken with the utmost attention to detail–and it seemed like the wardrobe department had lazily missed the mark. Murphy responded to the flack, citing that “people are criticizing it, and they’re wrong, to be quite blunt.” Per an interview with Variety, Murphy insisted that the aforementioned testing photographs were not indicative of the show’s final looks, and his team had purchased original pieces, sourcing archival items and some original pieces. With that being said, per an exclusive Deuxmoi source allegedly the wardrobe crew has been replaced amidst the heated backlash. Murphy also hired a “style advisory board,” consisting of ten individuals’ expertise and assistance–TBD if this group was kept on the project or not.

After news began circulating around “American Love Story,” Schlossberg entered the chat. As discussed on Deux/U’s July 24th podcast episode, the 32 year old understands the power of his words, especially how they can sway the needle (or at least get people talking). And he is anything but pleased with Murphy’s creative freedom.

Lamenting his disdain on Instagram, the political writer and internet personality urged Murphy “to donate to The [John F.] Kennedy [Presidential] Library [& Museum] no less than $250K or it gets worse.” Murphy said he will contribute an unidentified sum, per his conversation with Variety.

While he is known to be outspoken in nature, Schlossberg is savvy at keeping the public invested in his stances–from trends to more significant, newsworthy topics. He has repeatedly expressed his disgust toward the project’s self-motivated pursuits, particularly when his family’s story is being spun for monetary gain “in a grotesque way.” JFK’s grandson reposted a quote of Murphy’s: “I thought it was an odd choice to be mad about your relative that you really don’t remember.” In true Schlossberg form, he clapped back with recollections of time spent with (and surrounding) his late uncle.

Just this past weekend, Schlossberg addressed his grievances with the production on the latest episode of his YouTube show, "Test Drive". His primary frustration is that Murphy’s focus is on selling “sex and fashion,” rather than his family’s “legacy of public service.” He believes “[Murphy is] playing into the celebrity and the myth that just distracts people from the serious issues that are going on, which [JFK Jr.] actually spent his life paying attention to.”

Although filming will continue for the next few months, we will be curious to see if Murphy upholds his promise on donating funds and the Kennedy family’s lasting thoughts once the show debuts in February 2026.
