Remember that shocking blind item about a messy incident at Gwyneth Paltrow's swanky Montecito Airbnb? Well, the Daily Mail just recently confirmed it, and yep, it's as awkward as we imagined.
If you haven’t heard the full story, socialite Derek Blasberg was allegedly the unfortunate guest who, well, left a less-than-ideal surprise for the cleaning crew. While some sources were quick to point fingers at trendy weight-loss meds, our sources say that wasn't the culprit. The bigger issue seems to be Derek's alleged attempt to either pay off the cleaning staff or just expect them to silently clean up the mess. Needless to say, Gwyneth was not amused.
Here's where the story gets a little murkier. Apparently, Gwyneth was initially willing to forgive the whole incident. But then... things got complicated.
There are two rumors swirling about why Gwyneth ultimately cut Derek loose. The first involves a trip to fashion week – Milan or Paris, take your pick – where Gwyneth’s daughter Apple expected Derek to take on the role of big brother and look after her. Instead of low-key keeping things lowkey, Derek allegedly posted Apple all over his social media. Needless to say, this wasn’t what Gwyneth would have wanted for Apple.
The second rumor comes from an anonymous email sent to Deuxmoi this past week, which paints a slightly different picture. According to the anonymous source, Derek spent a whole day “sucking up to Netflix exec Ted Sarandos” (who either visited Gwyneth or they met up elsewhere). But the real kicker? When Gwyneth confronted Derek about the whole "incident," he reportedly turned the tables, blaming Gwyneth for being "cold" and "unforgiving" – basically gaslighting her for his own mess. Understandably, Gwyneth wasn't exactly thrilled with Derek's attempt at character assassination.
So, what's the takeaway? Derek Blasberg's Airbnb etiquette needs some work, and Gwyneth Paltrow might be re-thinking her guest list for the future. One thing's for sure, this story is giving us major "awkward social gathering" vibes. Maybe next time, a simple hotel stay is the way to go, Derek?
