No press is bad press…until things become stranger than fiction.
After last week’s explosive, critically acclaimed album drop from his estranged wife Lily Allen, David Harbour has catapulted himself back into the spotlight–concurrently surrounding press functions for "Stranger Things’" final season. And this time? It involves a very unsuspecting conflict with his long-time co-star, (and fictional adoptive daughter) Millie Bobby Brown.
As discussed on Deux/U’s November 6th podcast episode, outlets recently reported that Brown allegedly filed grievances against Harbour for bullying and verbal harassment. So the story goes, the questionable on-set behavior and ensuing investigation occurred before the show’s fifth season of filming took place, though the specificities are TBD. Presumably to keep the set environment safe and neutral, People added that “a representative” was present to oversee and prevent further action taken against Brown.
While Deuxmoi was not aware of these allegations before, during, or immediately after filming, a source informed Deuxmoi that the hatchet has since been buried. The tipster stated that allegedly “the situation between David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown appears to have been largely misunderstood. Industry insiders say it’s something people have quietly known about –and that it was never a major issue.” Although this source’s perspective is entirely unconfirmed, it makes us wonder if there is little truth in the magnanimity of these would-be claims.
But just what happened?
Deuxmoi’s source revealed that “reportedly, there was a brief misunderstanding on set when David misinterpreted something Millie said, leading to a tense moment that quickly blew over. David took full accountability, explaining that he’d been feeling insecure at the time and appreciated that she was only trying to help.” And let’s remember that Harbour and Brown have been working together for a decade–sometimes we bring out the not-so-polished sides of ourselves around those we are closest to.
From the looks of Harbour and Brown’s body language at this week's red carpet premiere to Brown’s Instagram post (featuring Harbour himself), we have a feeling that whatever happened, is absolutely in the past. In fact, Deuxmoi’s source emphasized that “they remain close and on good terms.” The source felt it was important to mention Harbour’s forthright ownership involving his “ongoing struggles with mental health.” While the actor may have handled the circumstance poorly, the source intimated that this piece of information “adds context to a moment that seems to have been more about human vulnerability than conflict.”
So there you have it: the alleged beef has definitely been squashed in time for our Thanksgiving binge of Strangers Things Season 5, Volume 1.
