PRACTICAL MAGIC 2 IS ON THE WAY-PETITION TO GET THESE 90s CLASSICS A SEQUEL

Practical Magic fans are clinking their midnight margaritas as Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman brew up a sequel and Winona Ryder prepares for another face off against Beetlejuice. A new spin on nostalgia is all the rage these days, so on behalf of the 90s, here are some movies that still deserve a new installment.

The Craft

Witchy vibes, satanic panic, the 90s were a time. Of all the other 90s and early aughts trends that seem to have made a comeback, that of supernatural teens has largely fallen by the wayside. A new Craft could fix that quicker than a time travel spell. Neve Campbell and Skeet Ulrich have already resurrected their Scream characters for a new generation, why shouldn't The Craft get the same treatment?

A good hangout movie never goes out of style. Sure, it's flown further under the radar than the likes of Dazed and Confused or even Kicking and Screaming, but no film that features combat boots and The Cranberries should ever really be overlooked. We've brought back every other nineties trend — even NSYNC is mulling over a comeback — but it's been a good long while since we've gotten a hangout flick. And if that weren't enough reason to get the gang back together, surely, Liv Tyler and Renée Zellweger are (neither's been on the big screen for more than five years).

There are few Ryder films unworthy of a sequel. And in the case of this particular Oscar-winning cult classic, the stigmas surrounding mental health are a far cry from what they were in the 90s — let alone the film's 1960s backdrop. Though the original owes its memorable characters to the memoir of the same name, a follow-up could both offer a fresh and updated perspective on and serve as a much-deserved excuse to reunite the likes of Ryder, with fellow powerhouses Angelina Jolie, Elisabeth Moss, Clea DuVall and Whoopi Goldberg.

Jawbreaker

One 90s trend that's yet to be brought back to life? Edge. And Jawbreaker had plenty of it, along with queer subtext — making it a favorite for LGBTQ viewers — and distinct aesthetic that, when mixed together, churned out a movie ripe for rewatches. And in a summer defined by BRAT, we could all use another dose of candy-colored cruelty on our screens, especially if you Courtney (Rose McGowan) got her hands on, say, tradwife influencers or Stepford mommy bloggers? It's giving Heathers meets A Simple Favor, no?

Mad Love

The original had more than a hefty dose of chaos to keep you on your toes, but a jump into the future — after Casey finishes (Drew Barrymore) treatment —  could lend itself to a smoother ride for her love story with Matt. And, if the end of her letter is anything to go by, there's definitely a possibility they've got at least another chapter in them. After years of bonding with stars and fans on her talk show, we're all due another Drew on-screen romance.

Reality Bites

Another revisit-worthy entry in the Ryder canon, Reality Bites is both a time capsule of the Gen-X heyday. Thirty years later, the film's hairdos and armfuls of Slinkies and Pringles cans might scream yesteryear. But there's something timelessly relatable about twenty-somethings dealing in aimlessness and pop culture references. We've all been there (if we aren't still), right? A where are they now for Lelaina (Ryder), Troy (Ethan Hawke) and Michael (Ben Stiller) could serve as both a reality check and maybe hope of a soft landing for others experiencing growing pains.

Single White Female

Ah, the age of erotic thrillers thanks to the ___ from hell (roommate, mistress, take your deadly pick). They're like the soap operas of screen scares. And in a year when horror's been less than reliable, we could really use old faithful. Sure, Jennifer Jason Leigh's Hedy couldn't return, but surely her "stillborn twin" could prove very much alive, and, well, it's basically Days of Our Lives meets Dallas.

Welcome to the Dollhouse

One of the few entries on this list that actually has sequels (of sorts) to speak of. Dawn Wiener (played by Heather Matarazzo in Dollhouse) gets a bleak epilogue in 2004's Palindromes and a more lighthearted one in 2016's Wiener-Dog, while 2009's Life During Wartime similarly features a different cast portraying Mark and Harvey, introduced in Dollhouse. But die-hards of the original deserve a more traditional follow-up (even if the very word "traditional" flies in the face of Dollhouse's ethos). Dollhouse's brave and unsparing take on suburban adolescence could easily, and should, be applied to Dawn's early to mid-twenties. Equally formative, few movies attempt the high-wire act of that in-between period where you've got one foot in adulthood, another in childhood, and no real idea of when you'll feel more at home in either.
